Choosing the Optimum Microsoft Dynamics 365 Solution!

Product History

Microsoft has been at the forefront of the business software market since the early 2000’s with both ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) solutions.

In recent years understanding the evolving technologies, positioning and product naming by Microsoft, has become a little more complex. So, a good starting point to this section of our website, is to help you understand the product range, the solutions we work with and how it might fit with your business.

Microsoft used to offer two main ERP solutions for larger organisations:

  • Microsoft Dynamics AX which started life as Damgaard Axapta.
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV which started life as Navision.

DynamicsPact (formerly AXpact) have always specialised in Microsoft Dynamics AX because it is more suited to large international companies both functionally and technically.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM

In regard to CRM solutions, there have traditionally been two main options:

  • Utilise the CRM functionality within AX which is ideal for users who needed strong links with the other ERP functions such as accounts, stock and production.
  • Use Microsoft Dynamics CRM which works independently from AX in sales, marketing and service situations.

D365, The Next Generation

In the last couple of years (2016/18) Microsoft has launched its next generation of ERP offering to run on their Cloud platform; Azure.

The new cloud solutions have basically come into line with the Microsoft Dynamics 365 branding which encompasses Office 365, Windows 10, Enterprise Mobility and Security.

There are now several choices for ERP from Microsoft providing a choice between cloud or on premise. Current products include: Dynamics Business Central, NAV 2018 and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations

Factors which govern which is right for your business are:

  • On- premise, cloud or a hybrid solution.
  • Complexity and functional requirements.
  • Multi-site, multi- national.
  • Budget and timescales.

DynamicsPact are 100% focused on Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. This is abbreviated to D365 FO.

Likewise, we are also experts in the latest version of Microsoft CRM which is now called Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement, abbreviated D365 CE.
